OFID (OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified candidates, the final exam have passed or completed their bachelor's degree and who wish to study for a master's degree are invited for grants in the framework of the OPEC Fund 2011/2012 apply. The OFID scholarship will be awarded a student or a candidate for a master's degree support. The applicant may, every developing country, and he / she must first be admitted to pursue a master's degree in a relevant field of development in an accredited university or college in the world. Through its scholarship program to help OFID highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges of her career - the cost of higher education. The winner of the OFID Fellows receive grants of up to $ 100,000. The funds will be spread over more than two years to reach a master's degree or equivalent from a recognized educational institution in the fall of the academic year 2011/2012.

Application Guidelines

STEP 2: Register within the OFID Scholarship Portal by using your email address. Please note you can log into the portal as many times as required.

STEP 3: Fill out the application form. Make sure to save data each time you update your application. Once you are logged in, if the page remains inactive for more than two hours, your session will time-out and you may lose unsaved data. Do not submit your application until you have completed the entire application process!

STEP 4: Upload necessary documents; CV, two recommendation letters, Bachelor's certificate/transcript, acceptance letter into postgraduate program and essay.

STEP 5: When your application is complete, and all additional documents are uploaded, your application is ready to be submitted. As mentioned previously, once your application is submitted, you can no longer make any changes or upload any more documents.

I. Eligibility

Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
Must have obtained or be on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting August/September 2011, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Master's Degree.

Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

II. Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund

The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:

The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution’s own standard medical scheme.
A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student’s own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.

Philanthropy and Indigenous People: Enhancing Indigenous Education Outcomes

The Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research (CAEPR), located at the Australian National University, invites applications for an Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) scholarship leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The scholarship is funded via the Australian Research Council.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the PhD candidate will participate in research that aims to critically assess the degree to which philanthropic interventions improve Indigenous education outcomes-from both Indigenous and philanthropic perspectives-with the goal of identifying or developing models, strategies and principles of effective partnership and engagement. The student will work directly with project Chief Investigators Dr Jerry Schwab and Dr Janet Hunt. In addition, the student will receive support from staff of the project Partner Organisation, the Melbourne Community Foundation and members of the project Advisory Committee, who will provide advice, assist with analysing findings and facilitate access to other philanthropic groups in Melbourne and across the nation.

The project aims to inform the development of new practical and theoretical approaches to building partnerships and enhancing Indigenous education outcomes. The project initially will focus on Melbourne and extend as appropriate to other parts of Victoria and nationally during the period 2010-13. The scholar will be required to have a background in anthropology, education or a similar social science discipline.

A demonstrated knowledge of and interest in Indigenous Australian communities and people is required.

A postdoctoral position will be available starting August 2010 to study the neurophysiological basis of auditory behaviors using the nonhuman primate model. The current focus of the laboratory is to understand how we detect signals (tones, complex stimuli) in noisy environments. The primary technique that will be used will be single unit electrophysiology (single and multi electrode) in awake animals performing behavioral tasks. In addition to electrophysiology, the successful applicant will perform quantitative analyses of behavior and neuronal activity, as well as some computational modeling, under the PI¹s supervision. Candidates with backgrounds in hearing research, vision research, oculomotor neuroscience, other areas of systems neuroscience, or engineering are welcome to apply.

Experience with electrophysiological recording, working with nonhuman primates, and skills in quantitative analysis and programming are a plus.

Job Description: Patient safety is a major concern for healthcare services worldwide. Healthcare delivery is complex; In order to design better systems for reducing error, it is useful to use experimental methods to test out the basis of commonly occurring human errors.

One of the ways of managing patient safety involves challenge-response protocols; a process of verbal challenge from one colleague to another as a proposed course of action is stated. This technique of double-checking is also referred to as ‘witnessing’ and is intended to provide a way to ‘trap’ errors before they cause patient harm.

As verbal double-checking protocols do not always provide the level of safety intended, this project will focus on gaining a better understanding of why checking fails and exploring ways to improve reliability. Working with Dr Friederike Schlaghecken at the University of Warwick, this project will adopt an experimental approach to understanding the cognitive mechanisms and social factors that can lead to checking failures.

In addition, the project will include exploratory interviews and observations with healthcare staff to more fully understand and model in the experimental studies the relationship between the analogue tests and clinical reality.
Candidate specification

The ideal candidate will have a good undergraduate degree in psychology and may also have a Masters in an applied psychology or experimental psychology field.

Methodological expertise must include good experimental and quantitative analysis skills.

TheCentre in Health and Lifestyle Interventionsis one of the largest research centres for applied psychology research related to health and health services in the UK. We have over 30 staff and 13 postgraduate students, all with psychology qualifications and many with health service experience. The Centre has a thriving postgraduate group supervised by Professor David French, Dr Andrew Turner and Dr Katherine Brown. Dr Louise Moody and Professor Louise Wallace both supervise postgraduates in ARC HLI and in the Faculty of Art & Design.

Modern technical support includes a suite of internet based applications to support research and intervention development, (eg use of “Serious Games”). The research income last year was £2.2m. Project Description:

One or more postdoctoral positions are available in the Environmental Sciences Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The successful candidate(s) will join a multi-disciplinary team of investigators undertaking a broad, integrated field experimental study to assess the response of northern peatland ecosystems to increases in temperature and exposures to elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. with experience in one or more of the following disciplines: plant physiological ecology, biogeochemistry, peatland hydrology, methane cycling in high-carbon ecosystems, or global change ecology in general. Prior experience with experimental field ecological research and associated laboratory analytical and measurement approaches (including stable isotopic approaches for the interpretation of biological processes and mechanisms) and an appreciation of data-model interactions is highly desirable. Ability to work as a part of a team and be comfortable in a multi-disciplinary environment is critical. The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program for American Citizens (Ph.D. or Equivalent Professional Degree)

The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program comprises approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing/research awards ranging from three to 12 months. Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should be eminent scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.

Eligible Candidates

Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements unless otherwise stated in individual country or award descriptions:

•U.S. citizenship at the time of application. Permanent resident status is not sufficient.

•A Ph.D. or equivalent professional terminal degree at the time of application. For professionals and artists outside academe, recognized professional standing and substantial professional accomplishments.

•College or university teaching experience at the level and in the field of the proposed lecturing activity as specified in the award description. For Distinguished Chairs awards, candidates should be senior scholars with a significant publication and teaching record.

•Foreign language proficiency only if specified in the award description or required for the completion of the proposed project. (Note: Except in certain world areas and countries, English is usually sufficient for lecturing.)

•Previous Fulbright scholar grantees are eligible to apply only if five years will have elapsed between the ending date of one scholar award and the beginning date of the new scholar award. This rule does not apply if the previous grant was for less than two months.

•Because an objective of the Fulbright Program is to provide an educational exchange experience for those not previously afforded such an opportunity, preference will usually be given to candidates who have not had substantial recent experience in the country to which they are applying. Duty abroad in the Armed Forces of the U.S. is not considered disqualifying.

•Sound physical and mental health.

•Disclosure of prior conviction or current indictment for commission of a felony. Prior conviction or current indictment may result in disqualification.

•Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin and/or physical impairment.

•Employees, spouses or dependent children of the United States Department of State or public and private organizations under contract to the United States Department of State are ineligible to apply for a Fulbright grant until one year after the employee's termination.

•Notes on Eligibility

Academics

Whether you are applying for a scholarship from a pharmaceutical company or a non-profit organization, most scholarship committees will take into consideration your overall commitment to academics. Even if the scholarship you want does not require a high level of academic achievement, the selection committee may still reasonably be interested in your grades or other indications that you take your studies seriously. After all, you are asking for money to pay for higher education, not a trip to the beach.

For some scholarships committees, academic commitment is translated into a minimum GPA requirement; for others, the breadth and depth of your coursework is more important. If you are already in college at the time of your application, expect a selection committee to consider your GPA; major, minor and course load; academic awards and honors; body of published work; and letters of recommendation from professors and advisors. For high school students, committees will look at your GPA, class rank, number of honors and AP classes, and letters of recommendation from teachers concerning your academic promise.

If you have struggled with your GPA, have not yet declared a major, or do not have a single award to your credit, don’t panic. You do not have to write off scholarship assistance just yet. Not all committees demand - or even care about - honor roll and Dean’s List.
